If you are anything like me, encouraging curiosity and critical thinking from a young age is very important. STEM- based learning not only sparks curiosity, but also lays the foundation for critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Watching little learners use hands-on exploration helps build a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
This blog post will highlight 3 different STEM explorations for your early childhood classroom or child learning at home. The best part is, most of these activities involve things that you more than likely have access to at home or at your school for free. If not, many of the needed items are of low cost- yay!

- Nature Detective: Bug Adventure: Transform your outdoor space into a scientific wonderland. Equip young learners with magnifying glasses and small containers. Encourage them to observe and document insects, fostering an early interest in biology and environmental science.
- Kitchen Chemists: Sensory Science in the Classroom: Turn your classroom or at-home kitchen into a mini laboratory with safe, kitchen friendly experiments. Mix baking soda and vinegar for a fizzy reaction or explore changes with food coloring and water. These types of activities lay the groundwork for enjoying basic chemical reactions.
- Building Block Engineering: Introduce simple building challenges using building blocks. Students can construct bridges, houses, towers, etc. These activities promote fine motor skills, which is crucial for future STEM proficiency.
